Letter to the Editors
Labour and the Universities
Dear Sir
I foolishly read the first bit of Diary of a Corbynista and can’t let the author get away with “It is almost as if his government had not marketised education, making it a dog eat dog free for all rather than the public service it once was.”
It was the Blair government whose diktat was that universities must recruit 50% of school leavers, rather than the 15% or less that was the case up to then. From this disastrous intervention stems much of the malaise of tertiary education which we find today.
