US Primaries – Stop Press
by J.R .Thomas
Not good news for the front runners on either side in the Wisconsin Primaries – a victory for Ted Cruz with 33 delegates to Donald Trump’s 3 (it is an adjusted “winner take most” system, the percentages were 48% Cruz, 35% Trump, 14% Kasich, 3% write-ins). For the Democrats: 57% Bernie Sanders, 43% Hillary Clinton, with delegates awarded proportionally. That was the seventh victory in a row for Bernie; he is now only 250 delegates behind Mrs C in elected delegates. If he can overtake her, her super-delegates – the party big wigs where she leads 469 to 31 – are released from their commitments.
After the tiny Colorado (Republican)and Wyoming (Democrat) contests later this week, it is on to the crucial votes of New York on the 19th April, with Hillary and Donald strongly ahead in the polls. If they can’t win there, they have real problems. Neither are good at defeat, and Donald’s furious outburst post Wisconsin will not be helping him…
We will look at the latest prospects in more detail next week
