* 50 years ago: Start of the Nigerian Civil War (aka Biafra War) 1967-1970 attributed to Britain’s de-colonisation 1960-3 problems. Nigerian forces invaded Biafra region – home of the Igbo tribe with oil production playing a vital strategic role.
* 70 years ago: AK-47 assault rifle enters production, becoming the most produced rifle in history.
* 100 years ago: WW1 – The Battle of Aqaba fought for the Red Sea port of Aqaba (now in Jordan). The attacking forces of the Arab Revolt, led by Auda ibu Tayi and advised by T. E. Lawrence (aka T. E. Shaw & “Lawrence of Arabia”), were victorious over the Ottoman defenders.
