World AIDS Day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease.
75 years ago: WW2 – The cruiser US Northampton is sunk as Japanese destroyers attempt to come down “the Slot” to Guadalcanal.

SAT 2nd

Small Business Saturday UK – campaign to encourage consumers to ‘shop local’.  Many small businesses host events and offer discounts.

Turner Prize 2017 Winner announced on the BBC from the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.  Every other year, the prize leaves Tate Britain and is presented at a venue outside London.  The Turner Prize award totals £40,000 with £25,000 going to the winner and £5,000 each for the other shortlisted artists.
